Philomena Menezes - Christian Family Life
Philomena moved to Canada 30 years ago from Mumbai (Bombay), India - she started off in Regina, Saskatchewan and was introduced to CWL activities by the members at St. Ann’s parish there. However with young children, a full time job and coming to a brand new country with winter & snow, it was not possible to join at that time.
Precious Blood Church has been her home parish since moving to Scarborough. Enthusiastic CWL members “coaxed” her into helping out at the bake booth at the Church Bazaar, and voila - the following year she was in charge of the bake booth and was an active member of the CWL!
Philomena has served the CWL as standing committee chair in various roles in her home council prior to being President in 2008-2009. At the Regional level, she held various positions on the Executive.
Philomena is involved in her Parish as a Lector, Choir member, Children’s Liturgy leader, Holy Roller, Altar Society and the Parish Social Committee. Needless to say Precious Blood keeps her busy.
Her goals for Scarborough are to increase membership and to ensure that the current members in the Region are aware of how proud they should be to be a part of a great organization and a wonderful Sisterhood. She also wants to find ways to invite younger women to join so to have their energy and innovative ideas to help propel Scarborough into the next decade. Philomena is a strong believer that this direction, coupled with prayer and the experiences of current members, will help achieve these goals.
Philomena has been married to Terence for 35 years – they have four daughters and one son-in-law. Thanks to her family for all their support and encouragement which allows her to freely serve the CWL.
