Mothers know best, especially a Catholic Women’s League mom who pays membership for her daughter, until she realizes the blessing of League membership!
Marie became a member of St. Edward the Confessor Council in 2006 at the invitation of her mom, Susan Barry, who was a long-standing member. In 2014, Marie showed up on election night to cast a vote for her mother who was running for the position of President on the executive. That same night, Marie was nominated and was acclaimed to one of the standing committee chair positions as Communications Chair. She chuckles that she “landed” on the Catholic Women’s League executive without knowing the length of the term before she was acclaimed. Marie served as President of her council for 2017 – 2018 and during her term, the council had many achievements, including the parish’s 75th anniversary celebrated in 2017.
Marie has taken the lead for several CWL and parish fundraisers. She initiated a family-friendly Talent Night, which has become an annual event. Marie believes in creating a fun-loving environment for CWL events which sparked the idea of a viewing and High Tea for the 2018 “Royal Wedding”, which was very much enjoyed by all who attended. Marie assists with writing their council’s semi-annual newsletter, and with the planning and execution of League events and parish achievements such as the Communion Brunch, outreach to members who cannot attend meetings, charity work, parish social events, CWL receptions, and more.
Marie loves the personal touch when supporting her parish presidents. She was excited to take on the North York Regional Chair position, representing 20 parish councils.
